In November
2005 Prague’s Lucerna Concert Hall has witnessed the 30th
anniversary
concert of the Prague Big Band for which I have upgraded my
existing group
called the Kontraband to get the full Big Band sound. The
rich sonority of
the full Big Band has, again, reignited my imagination. At
that time the
era of the Kontraband, which has been the part of Prague’s
jazz scene since
the late eighties, was coming to its close anyway and I
must admit I longed
to lead a full Big Band again. This updated ensemble
then was made up of
the top Prague jazz musicians and for me it was a
real pleasure to work with
these great musicians. I have selected and
re-arranged again the tunes
presented here, in order to give the soloists
their own unique space and
their chance to shine.

U příležitosti velkého koncertu
v pražské Lucerně v listopadu roku 2005, který se konal k 30. výročí
založení Pražského Big Bandu, jsem doplnil svůj stávající orchestr
Kontraband na plné obsazení big bandu
a tento hutný a plný zvuk mne opět
nadchl. Éra orchestru Kontraband, který působil na hudební scéně od konce 80
tých let jako varianta Pražského big bandu, se do jisté míry naplnila a já
zatoužil vystupovat opět s orchestrem v klasickém bigbandovém obsazení.
V orchestru se sešla výborná sestava špičkových jazzmanů a pro mne je to
svátek a radost pracovat s takovými osobnostmi. Pro tuto nahrávku jsem
vybral kompozice, které jsem nově aranžoval pro plné obsazení a které tvoří
páteř našeho současného repertoáru. Představí se v nich
jako sólisté téměř všichni členové orchestru.
